Behind the Image

During this winter I rose at 5:30 am to make the drive to Connemara National Park and begin an early hike up to the top of Diamond Hill. Upon my summiting of the peak, I was fully shrouded in cloud cover but strong winds shortly revealed the expansive sights of the national park below. During such strong and incredibly icy wind giving a windchill of -9ºC, it was very difficult to even keep the tripod stable but I knew that as the sun began to rise it would reveal some dramatic light amongst the Twelve Bens. Shortly after, intense rays of light struck the ground and peak of Knockbrack to the left in what was truly an astonishing sight. Solas Diaga translates to Divine Light and in this circumstance, the scene is worthy of such a title.
