Behind the Image

A particularly cold snap that overcame Ireland in December 2022, with beautiful wintery weather country-wide, led me to spend an entire week capturing the landscape in entirely new conditions uncommon for the country. During a visit to Coole Park, Co. Galway, a woodland area accompanied by Coole Lough to its West, much of the lake’s shoreline overlaps the low-lying trees of the park’s perimeter. Where commonly flooded areas along the lake shore surrounded the base of trees, now had constructed beautiful formations of ice and frost in a myriad of compositions. This particular frame encapsulates the crisp & cold conditions with hues of blue complimenting the fallen autumnal leaves upon the surface ice.
